A Cessna 180 airplane with four people aboard crashed into the mountainside about
10 miles in from the mouth of Amber Bay on the Aalska Peninsula. Two survivors were
recovered from the plane, the pilot and one other passenger died in the crash. Two
Coast Guard helicopters and crews landed 700 feet below the crash site. Rescue personel
had to carry the survivors down the mountain to the helicopter.
